It’s important you feel confident to care for a Fostered child or young person sufficiently and be able to provide them with a high-level of care, that’s why we offer an extensive and ongoing portfolio of Therapeutic Parenting training to develop your skills as a Foster Parent. Our bespoke Therapeutic training helps all our Foster Parents to build on the qualities, skills and life experiences they already have. As long as you’re open to learning new things then we’re here to guide and support you.
Our therapeutic approach means that we treat and train Foster Parents as professionals and provide them with the tools to build strong relationships with the children that come into their care. We want everyone to feel confident and secure in their work and that’s why we work with our Foster Parents to identify training to meet the individual needs of the Foster family as well as the children that they look after.
We offer more training than any other independent provider and all of our courses are completely free, high-quality, flexible and straightforward. They are designed to give Foster Parents the invaluable skills and confidence to fully support the children that they look after. Our courses are run by fully-qualified professionals from a range of commercial and Social care backgrounds.
Creating a positive, therapeutic environment for the children who we look after is one of our core values, that’s why our training is based around this notion and we help all our Foster Parents to understand and implement this in their parenting. Once Foster Parents have completed out Therapeutic training programme they will be able to:
Distinguish between therapeutic parenting and therapy
Identify how they can provide a therapeutic environment for children
The therapeutic training courses help Foster families to understand why children do what they do and be aware of the triggers and patterns that may occur – enable Foster Parents to better understand and manage challenging and deregulated behaviours.
We understand that education plays a vital part in unlocking positive futures for all children and young people, that’s why we place the highest priority on our children and young people receiving a full education to meet all their needs.
Education gives young people the opportunity to develop their life skills and experience to prepare for independence and their future. We aim to provide them with a bespoke range of opportunities, both within specialist or formal education and our informal range of learning programmes.
Our specialist Social Care team and Education Advisors work with Foster Parents to ensure they are professionally supported to tackle any educational challenges and opportunities that may arise.
We make it a priority to look after all of our children, foster parents and staff alike and understand that quality and availability of support is key to helping you manage the children in your care adequately. The better support you receive means you’ll be able to provide your foster child or young person with better quality care as well.
There will always be someone to talk to, day or night as we offer 24/7 support so we’re always there to listen and support you. We carefully match the individual needs of the children and young people looking for homes to make sure they’re a good match with your skills, personal circumstance and experience so the support and training you receive will be tailored to both you and your foster child’s needs. We also understand that although fostering is hugely rewarding, you also need time off to recharge and take a break, that’s why we offer 21 days paid respite (holiday) per year.
