Day School
A Year of Animal Encounters
Day School
During the course of the year, pupils at Cambian Hereford School have had lots of opportunities to meet a wide variety of animals, and learn more about them. Pupils visited the Small Breeds and Owl Centre, and enjoyed feeding the goats. Another trip took us to Telford Zoo to look at a greater diversity of animals.
Later in the year, pupils took part in a butterfly project. They enjoyed naming their caterpillars, checking on their growth each day, watching them wiggle in their chrysalises and finally release them as butterflies.
The year of animal encounters culminated with a visit from Reptomania, who brought in a selection of their beautiful snakes, lizards and invertebrates. Many pupils overcame significant fears to not only stroke the reptiles, but with encouragement, to hold the snakes, working up from the smallest to the largest. They also saw how the scorpion that looked black in normal light, turned green under UV light.
There was a slightly scary moment when the tarantula made a break for freedom, but she was quickly caught and placed back in her enclosure!
Pupils asked some fantastic questions to find out more about the lives of these fascinating animals, and have already asked when they can come to visit again!
