Science Graduate, Global Traveller and Future PhD Student

D's Story

D studied AS Levels in Physics and Chemistry at Bournemouth and Poole College whilst supported by Cambian Wing College, alongside studying A Level Maths at CWC. He achieved Grade A in all subjects. D then went on to study A Level Physics and Chemistry at Brockenhurst College, achieving an A grade in both subjects, as well as an A in AS Further Maths and a Grade 7 in GCSE Astronomy, whilst continuing to live residentially and receive support from Wing College.

Since leaving Wing College, D attended University of Southampton where he completed a Master’s degree in Chemistry. He lived independently at university in shared accommodation and continued to develop his confidence and independence in many areas of life.

D passed his motorcycle theory test and hopes to obtain his full motorcycle licence. He also developed a love of travelling independently, something he previously did not think would be possible. He has travelled to Croatia, Poland, Japan, Italy and Germany, as well as travelling within Wales.

Alongside his studies, D worked at the university during the summer months helping to run experiments in the teaching laboratories, supporting A Level students to gain practical laboratory experience. He wrote his Master’s dissertation on novel methods of signal enhancement in magnetic resonance.

After university D planned to work in research for several years in order to continue developing a model for fundamental particles before going on to complete a PhD.
