About Shap Road

With an Outstanding CQC Judgement Cambian Shap Road stands out as one of the best residential care homes of its type in the country. Located in the picturesque town of Kendal it provides exceptional care and support for young adults with Learning Disabilities and or challenges within the autistic spectrum.

The home is a registered 4-bedroom house for young adults, who are closely supported to live as independent a life as possible and be a big part of their local community. We aspire for all people within our care to be the best they can be as themselves.

Supporting Young People Into Adulthood

Our group of young adults are very happy, safe and show high levels of respect and kindness towards each other. The care and life experiences that we provide them makes a significantly positive difference to their lives and parents have commented that the exemplary support their children receive has ‘changed their lives and given them hope’.

Cambian Shap Road is constantly working towards reshaping the way in which we support young people into adulthood and seek to prepare them for possible employment, work experience and/or lifelong fulfilment.

Social Inclusion

Residents of Shap Road are encouraged to be active, and to engage with the community as much as possible.

Speaking from the perspective as a parent, we feel incredibly lucky to have our daughter living at Shap Road. Every parent of a young person with additional needs, is anxious that their young persons needs are met in a safe, kind, environment, where they can fulfil their potential. Shap Road offers a client centered approach, meaning just that. Our daughter has a voice, she gets to make choices about her day and how she spends it. The team are caring and fun and are motivated to provide the best home environment for our young people where they can flourish.

Parent (Shap Road)

Stepping foot in to Shap Road you can see exactly why it is rated as Outstanding. Upon all previous visits, regardless of which staff are present, you can see that they all know exactly what is expected of them and the homely, safe and warm environment that they have created is something not found in many other care homes we have visited. It feels exactly how a home should feel and this is epitomised by the Manager of the service. The level of detail that he has implemented across the service and the standards that he sets and expects of the staffing team, go above and beyond what is normally found within a care home of this ilk and size. Shap Road provides a level of care that not many other care homes can or do, it is always a pleasure to visit this home and witness first hand how happy the residents are.

NHS Lancashire & South Cumbria

I’ve been working with Shap road for almost a year now, the home is always homely and welcoming, and the Staff I have met are approachable and knowledgeable, and they know the residents well. Residents appear happy and settled when I have visited, and take part in a range of activities.

Specialist Community Learning Disabilities Team - Adults

I’m writing to you to express my thanks and appreciation for all you do, day in day out to support Cassie. Following the meeting we’ve just attended together, it’s clear to see that you all have Cassie’s best interests at heart and that you are true advocates for her. As a family, we are more than happy with the care that Cassie is receiving from you and we hope that she can continue to be placed with you for the foreseeable future. We had had some signals from the social worker that Cassie’s needs might not have warranted residential care funding and as you can imagine, we were anxious at the thought of having to look more towards a supported living model. However, it is apparent that Cassie is in the best place possible for her needs and although her progress since being with you is small…it is still progress. Please know that we appreciate everything you do - we know it’s not easy, but it makes a huge difference to know that you and your team have Cassie’s best interests at heart.
