Our Curriculum

At Cambian Devon School we offer a bespoke curriculum specifically tailored to promote student success and progression.

At Devon School we have designed our curriculum with students’ learning at the centre with the common goal of working towards our whole school vision. Our school curriculum has been designed to be broad and balanced, meet the framework of the National Curriculum to prepare students for formal qualifications, promote students’ natural curiosity and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

An integral part of our curriculum is to offer students new and exciting experiences through a range of classroom based and off-site activities that are designed to build resilience, confidence and self-esteem. We also offer a range of therapeutic interventions to ensure that students are equipped with the skills and strategies that they need to be able to thrive in their life after school and make positive contributions to society. We recognise that individuals should be challenged in their education - learning from failures and celebrating successes.

We have designed our curriculum to be empowering, enabling individuals to develop their interpersonal skills, creativity and independence. All teachers and professionals engaged in teaching and learning activities are partners in learning and strive to continuously develop their skills and competencies for providing an appropriate range of strategies to inspire all our individuals.

Qualifications we offer include:

  • Unit Awards
  • BTEC
  • Duke of Edinburgh
  • Entry Level Certificates
  • Level 1 & 2 Certificates
  • GCSE

Learning Journeys

Our learning journeys are our school long term planning frameworks, they are displayed in all of our classrooms as a visual guide for our students to show them where they are on their learning pathways and prepare them for for the next steps in their journey. See below our English, Maths and Science Learning Journeys.

English

Students learn to build skills in reading, writing, and speaking through rich texts and discussions. Our English Learning Journeys are displayed in the classroom as a guide, showing where they are now and what comes next. See our English Learning Journeys below:

Maths

In Maths, our students learn to work with numbers, solve problems, and think clearly. Our Maths Learning Journey is on display in every classroom to help pupils see where they are and what they’ll learn next. See our Maths Learning Journeys below:

Science

In Science, our students explore the world around them through questions, experiments, and discoveries. Our Science Learning Journey helps them see their progress and understand what they’ll be learning next. See our Science Learning Journeys below:

Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE)

PSHE helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to lead healthy, safe, and responsible lives. It covers topics such as relationships, physical and mental wellbeing, personal safety, and financial education.
