Cambian children's specialist residential services have a reputation for providing outstanding care helping children and young people with a range of complex needs and social, emotional mental health stabilise their lives and develop their potential.
Our services are trusted by Ofsted, and our customer focused and personal approach ensure we provide high quality care in over 137 homes. We offer a complete pathway designed to reduce levels of 1:1 support leading to supported living or foster care. Our placement objectives include:
Our referral process - ensuring that each young person is matched rigorously, to the correct service type: this maximises the potential for placement stability and the right home provides the right service to suit a young person's needs and manage the risks that they present.
Our homes are tiered in respect of the level of acuity they deal with, the staffing ratio provided and consequently the tier of therapeutic support they require. Each geographic region has a robust operational structure, consisting of Regional Managers, supported by Cambian central quality and governance teams
Our solo homes are specifically designed to meet the needs and manage the risks surrounding some of the UK's most complex young people.
The staffing ratio is a minimum 2:1 and our services are both registered as specialist children's homes and independent schools.
Education is provided on-site enabling the children in our care to gradually progress to mainstream models of learning. Each child is involved in drawing up their own care plan. Our Clinical Psychologist ensures a holistic picture of the young person's needs is provided within a 28 day assessment.
This assessment will include strengths and protective factors, mental health difficulties, risk factors, attachment patterns and core beliefs.
Our solo homes are regularly used as an alternative to secure accommodation or as an exit strategy from secure accommodation. This maximises the potential of successful reintegration into community based living.
As a Tier 3 service, our homes provide a therapeutic environment for young people with complex needs and subject to progress and assessment, a move-on opportunity for them to live with other peer groups.
We provide individualised care plans and education for young men and women up to the age of 17.
Outcomes for the young people are measured through a series of observations and periodic assessments for the entire duration of placement to evidence progress, identify need and manage risk.
We have positive links with local mainstream schools, colleges and training providers and also have access to a Cambian SEMH School. Where appropriate and in line with the Children Leaving Care Act 2000, our dual homes can extend the leaving age to 18 years. We are registered with Ofsted and can accept planned or emergency referrals.
Our complex needs homes offer 3-4 bedrooms, providing a minimum staffing ratio of 1:1. A few of our homes have an additional assessment bed which is available on an emergency basis.
We can cater for a wide range of cultures and ethnicities whilst care plans are personalised to meet the needs of the young person. Many of the young people in our complex needs homes present with anger management issues, absconding and criminal behaviours.
Our services are flexible and well-equipped to increase staffing to accommodate any young people who require 2 to 1 support and/or waking nights. In addition to the care services provided within the home, Cambian also offers education at the Cambian regional school.
Our small group homes offer 3-4 bedrooms and it operates on a minimum of a 1:2 staffing ratio. Our services are flexible and well equipped to increase staffing to accommodate young people who require 1:1 and/or waking nights.
In addition to the care services provided within the home, Cambian also offers education at its regional school. Personalised care takes into account routines, rules and boundaries. High value is placed on choice-consequence, where young people are highly praised for making positive decisions and challenged to think about the potential consequences of negative behaviours.
We work with each young person to develop a personal care plan ensuring that they can take activities that meet their individual needs. Staff work with the local school and Cambian specialist schools to support each young person with their education programmes. This includes developing life skills, cooking, keeping fit and taking part in community activities.
Our group homes offer up to 5 bedrooms for young people diagnosed with SEMH, who require education in a smaller and more structured environment to ensure that their needs are properly met.
Our group homes form part of pathway plans which are designed to ensure that there is smooth transition to either semi or independent settings.
We aim to stabilise the psychological effects derived from abuse, neglect, exploitation and exclusion. Our services achieve this through a therapeutic approach to care.
Each approach is handled sensitively and where young people feel they are not ready to deal with the core of the issue, the focus moves away from formal interventions to how the staff within the homes can support them until they feel ready to tackle such issues.
