Specialist Equipment

Grindon is a detached house registered to accommodate up to 4 individuals, from the age of 16 years old, who are Deaf with additional complex needs.

Specialist equipment and facilities are provided to support the challenges faced with the sensory loss, such as;

  • Specialist fire systems

  • Vibrating pads

  • Internet connection for FaceTime or Skype

This also includes a fully signing staff team and support to attend deaf events and integration into the deaf community.

24 Hour Support

The home provides 24 hour support to all individuals, with a staff ratio of 1:1. The staff have access to a clinician for support and training needs.

The home provides an approach to care that utilises the homes resources including looking after any animals at the home. This can be seen as a more therapeutic approach to care and is tailor-made for each individual. The home also works closely with other local organisations and services to offer a wide choice of activities, hobbies and educational input.

Grindon currently supports 3 profoundly deaf adults with diagnoses of Autism, ADHD, OCD and learning disability. The home is run on a 1:1 basis which allows the staff to focus on individual needs. Grindon house is a busy and active home. The adults are supported to engage in a variety of activities.

The staff are diligent in preparing the adults for their day and making sure that everyone is ready. We use widgets on a daily basis to plan and alleviate any anxieties.

Location

Grindon is situated on the outskirts of the village of Uffculme near Cullompton. There are good links to local transport including buses and trains.

The house is surrounded by woodland to one side, and 2 residential dwellings either side. Within walking distance is a local village shop.
